Coach on Android: AI Coaching With Health Connect Sync

Coach is live on Google Play! Android users, you're in for a treat: the full app, same chat, season plans, and workout reviews as iOS and web, and it syncs with Health Connect, so it reads your Android health data the way the iPhone app reads Apple Health.
What syncs from Health Connect
Most watch and fitness apps on Android write into Google's Health Connect, so your phone already holds a lot of training data. Connect once and Coach pulls in:
- Workouts with the heart rate samples recorded during the session, distance, and active calories. Coach reads heart rate from the same app that logged the workout, so a second device running alongside can't double-count.
- Heart rate variability (HRV), as RMSSD, the vagal index most recovery research uses.
- Sleep, split into light, deep, REM, and awake stages when your source app records them.
- Daily metrics like steps and resting heart rate.
My favorite part carries over from Apple Health: we backfill up to a year of workouts and 90 days of daily metrics. Health Connect normally only hands an app the 30 days before you granted access, so Coach asks for the extra "health data history" permission during setup. Decline it and sync still works, you just start with a month instead of a year.
Workout types map into the same sport taxonomy we use for Garmin and Apple Health, so a Health Connect run feeds the training load model exactly like one from a watch. Our Garmin integration works on Android too, including sending workouts you build in chat to your watch.
What your AI coach does with the data
Real heart rate, HRV, and sleep let Coach read your recovery instead of guessing at it. If your HRV is suppressed and last night was short, Coach can turn tomorrow's hard intervals into an easy aerobic day on its own, instead of holding you to a plan your body already voted against.
That is not a gimmick. In Vesterinen and colleagues' 2016 trial, recreational runners who did hard sessions only when their HRV was in its normal range improved 3,000 m speed by 2.1% over eight weeks while doing about a quarter fewer hard sessions than the group on a fixed plan. More on recovery and sleep tracking if you want the long version. Short version: the more honest data Coach has, the less it assumes.
What's next
Health Connect is the third source Coach reads, after Garmin and Apple Health, and all three run through the same normalization step and analysis. That shared core is what made this one fast to add, and it will make the next one faster still. Android also shipped with a few things everyone gets: Coach replies in your phone's language, you can log any number in chat (body weight, push-ups) and Coach tracks it, and injuries you report shape every plan that follows.
